Shirley Menard -SJM Media Group
Shirley Menard is founder and president of SJM Media Group, a full-service management company dedicated to promoting, marketing and producing successful World Music and Reggae artists throughout the world. The company extends to its clients advanced expertise in legal consulting; artist representation; business organization; public relations and marketing; and event production. Ms. Menard is also an entertainment lawyer, having received her undergraduate degree from Dartmouth College and her juris doctorate from Fordham University School of Law.
After working for entertainment conglomerates such as Viacom, MTV, Worldvision Enterprises and Hallmark Entertainment, she opened her own entertainment law office. Her extensive experience resulted in a practice that encompassed virtually every component in the entertainment industry, in both domestic and global arenas.
In music, Ms. Menard negotiated with the likes of Sony, Warner Bros., Elektra, Tuff Gong International, Tropical Music (Germany), Socadisc (France), and Temba Music (Denmark). She has drafted and negotiated production, record distribution, artist management, merchandising, licensing and agency agreements on behalf of her recording clients.
For the small and large screen, she has coordinated the presentation and submission of scripts for film and television projects for aspiring screenwriters; negotiated film and television options, as well as production and television distribution agreements; and secured copyright and trademark registration for various clients.
Ms. Menard created SJM Media Group as a means to offer her services on a broader scale. SJM Media Group allows her to utilize her extensive business and legal experience to further the careers of her corporate and performing clients. Her roster includes new artists, entrepreneurs, established media conglomerates and international businesses. She currently represents St. Lucian reggae artist, singer, songwriter and poet Taj Weekes, handling all of his legal and business affairs as his manager and attorney.
